Sree Sathya Sai Baba and Me

by Rev Fr. V.V. Paulose

Jesus is my God and my Lord. He is love and love is God and God is love. "This royal law is found in the scripture: Love your neighbor as you love yourself" (James 2:8).

"Those who do not love their brothers and sisters, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have never seen" (1 John 4:20). The last judgment of Jesus is in accordance with the service you and I have rendered to the poor. "I tell you the truth, anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me" (Mathew 25:40).

Jesus said, "I have come to the world to serve, not to be served" (Mathew 20:28). I believe that all these principles of Jesus were put into practice by Sree Sathya Baba in his 85 years of earthly life.

Our church in Chennai and I have been enjoying the service and love that he has instilled in the lives of his disciples to serve others without receiving any returns. St. Mary's Mission Hospital in Chennai under our Jacobite Syrian church, is getting free service from a Sree Sathya Sai Baba devotee, Dr. Danumthiri, a dermatologist for the last 4 years. The Mission hospital, Santha Bhavan - the destitute home, and Abhayam, the palliative care for cancer patients, were started to give free treatment and service to the poor and needy, completely free of cost depending on Jesus. Dr. Danumthiri had advised me, "Father, don't collect any amount from the patients for treatment. You see how the Sathya Sai hospitals run without collecting any amount from the patients. I work as a doctor free of cost as a service to God, not for money." It is sad but true that I had personally approached a number of Christian doctors for the service in the mission hospital, but all of them wanted money and nobody was willing to work for free. Finally, the great soul of the Late Dr. Elizabeth John directed her friend, Dr Danumthiri to our hospital.

I pray for the soul of Sree Sathya Sai Baba. My condolences to all the devotees and well wishers of Baba.

For Indians Its 'Me' - No 'We' or Teamwork
One thing I have noticed being in the east is 'we' is always more important than 'me'. Japanese, Koreans, in particular, and Chinese included are willing to work for their country, company, society ahead of individuals.

Sustenance of Life and Spirituality
The first and foremost threat to the sustenance of life on earth is the untoward activities of man himself. The harmful ecological changes happening around us is the by-product of the perverted life style of the modern man.

Defend Doctrine, but Don't Attack Others, Pope Says at Audience
Even in the midst of the upheaval of the Protestant Reformation in Germany, St. Peter Canisius knew how to defend Catholic doctrine without launching personal attacks on those who disagreed, Pope Benedict XVI said.
