Abiding in God by Abiding in Love

by Shibu Podiyan

Abiding in God by Abiding in Love: “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him,” 1 John 4:16. Open this blessed Word to us, Father: “he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” Oh to abide in love, and thus to abide in God! May we know this perfect fellowship, Lord: you abiding in us and us abiding in you. Such fellowship and union with you will keep us from all sin and all evil, Lord. Let us be joyful in this knowledge and in this fellowship, Lord. Let us abide in this love, and be patient in all trials, 1 Cor. 13:4. May our heart know nothing but love, goodness and kindness toward all.

Knowing God as love moves us to love others; and, we know that we have passed from death to life. “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death,” 1 John 3:14. Such love assures us that we know God, and that we are born of God, 1 John 4:7.
