Isaiah lived through a pivotal period of his nations history, the second half of the 8th.Century BC., which saw the rise of written prophecy in the work of Amos, Hosea and Micah, but also the downfall and disappearance of the greater part of Israel, the Ten Tribes of the northern kingdom. In Verse 5 he is in the depths of despair and declares himself to be unclean.

A Seraphim with a burning coal from the Altar of God places it on his lips. The symbol, applied to Isaiah's lips, the point at which his need was most pressing, assures him of Personal forgiveness.

Isaiah's 'Here am I send me' is remarkable considering his previous despair and that this human voice is accepted in the heavenly court. Isaiah fulfilled this commission to blind and deafen by proclaiming the Truth. God here shares with the prophet the critical significance of his ministry. Sinful Israel had come to the point, where one more rejection of the Truth will finally confirm them for inevitable judgement.

His dilemma is that there is no way of saving the sinner but by the very Truth, whose rejection will condemn him utterly. But there is a ray of hope and light. There after a long life of prophesying in troubled times, always persuading the Jews to trust, not in political alliances, but in God alone and that one day a Great King would come and establish God's reign all over the earth.

Here we have another Messianic Prophet. "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and His name shall be called Emmanuel." (Isa.7:14) This is the Branch of the root of Jesse and thus preserving the Davidic Line which God had told David would never be extinguished. Christ gets His Davidic Lineage through His Mother.

Let us hearken to the 'still small voice.' Samuel was someone who heard a similar voice when a young boy and thought it was Eli calling him. The finally Eli woke up to fact that it was God calling to Samuel. He told Samuel that when he next heard the voice he should say: 'Speak Lord for Thy Servant heareth.'

How many of us have heard a similar voice, not recognizing it and have failed to respond to the Call? How many of us have been like the foolish virgins and not been ready for the Lord's coming? We are always admonished to be Alert, because the devil goes around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

If you hear that 'still small voice' won't you follow Eli's advice and say: 'Speak Lord for Thy Servant Heareth?' We ought to obey God and not man and keep His Commandments. The Psalmist says put not your trust in foreigners. May we be blessed and see the Shekinah Glory is my Prayer In His Holy Name. May Jehovah always be our guide.
