Carter, Howard (1874–1939)

Born in London, the son of a talented painter and illustrator, Carter grew up in Norfolk. At the age of fifteen he first visited the country home of Baron Amherst of Hackney, whose important collection of Egyptian antiquities were to influence and inspire Carter’s interest in archaeology.
